His political affiliation *drumroll*:

Basically, Jefferson's anti-Republican acts help disintegrate the Federalist party and strengthen the Republican party as well as his own support.

So by doing stuff against his parties beliefs, Jefferson was able to make the Democratic-Republican party more appealing to all. Before, the Federalists vs. Dem-Reps was black&white. In the Post-Jefferson era, the Feds were kicked out, and the Dem-Reps were more grayish, metaphorically speaking, having qualities of both sides.
