Obama Watch (APUSH edition)
Because you guys hate it as much as I do.
I will update daily. Feel free to add anything I miss.
I want to mention, by the way, that the Obama Watch quizzes are completely retarded. She asks questions about the most irrelevant things EVER. I'm sorry, but I don't really care about what Obama's daughter said about Congress. [/rant]
20 January, 2009: Inauguration.
21 January, 2009: Halted unpassed bills proposed By Former President Bush; announced that Guantanamo Bay, Cuba would be closed by 2011.
22 January, 2009: Re-stated position on abortion (it should remain legalized, but its necessity should be reduced); called on Israel to demilitarize the Gaza strip in order to preserve a cease-fire.
23 January, 2009: Reversed ban on federal funding of non-governmental programs to perform abortions over-seas brought in by Former President Bush.
24 January, 2009: Gained access to more bailout funds, and is considering spending more money on bailouts; reviewed $800+ million economic stimulus package; requested that the American public stop listening to outspoken Conservative radio reporter Rush Limbaugh "if you want to get things done."
25 January, 2009: Sent special envoy to middle east to meet with Palestinian and Israeli leaders; measures taken by President Obama to preserve teaching and police jobs in his $800 million stimulus plan have been predicted to relieve the fragile economy in weeks.
26 January, 2009: Issued "clean air" memorandum that will raise the bar on emissions standards in the automotive industry; has demanded direct contact with Iran's leaders after Iran failed to show up to an international meeting of world leaders.
27 January, 2009: Allowed himself to be interviewed on Arabic networks, stating that the US is not the enemy of Muslims, or the Middle East; $4.19 billion for "neighborhood stabilization activities" granted in the economic stimulus, which leads many to fear that Obama is giving the money to ACORN.
28 January, 2009: Secretary of Treasury, the Honorable Timothy Geithner, stated that the planned $700 billion bailout program is undergoing an overhaul; is planning a trip to Canada to meet with the Canadian Prime Minister (I can only guess as to what needs to be discussed with Canada); the Vatican be drinkin' dat Haterade, calling out on Obama to re-instate the ban on overseas abortion funds he got rid of on the 23rd.
29 January, 2009: Equal Pay Act signed in (this overturns a 2007 Supreme Court decision, and extends the time allotted to file for discrimination to 180 days).
30 January, 2009: Approved more than $20 million in spending for relief in the Gaza strip; Russia offers olive branch by backing down from threat to release short-range missiles; lawmakers argue over just where Gitmo prisoners are going, with eyes on Colorado; is considering children's health care bill that will help ~4 million children with no health insurance, costing about $32.8 billion; discussed with Chinese president over trade imbalances.
31 January, 2009: Is figuring out what to do with the remaining $350 billion relieve the financial decline, stating that "no single action can cure the economy;" is looking at Republican Senator Judd Gregg to be the Secretary of Commerce; praised Iraq for holding elections; is hosting a Super Bowl Party at the White House (I imagine there will be chicken... LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL).
1 February, 2009: Attended Alfalfa Club dinner, a yearly event at the capitol; hosted Super Bowl Party at the White House; many Senators are in disagreement over the stimulus plan.
2 February, 2009: Hillary Clinton plans a trip to China, Japan, and South Korea; the newly-appointed Secretary of Commerce, Senator Judd Gregg, stated that he would only accept the cabinet position were his Senate seat replaced with a Republican.
3 February, 2009: Secretary of Health and Human Services nominee Tom Daschle withdrew; Americans express wide-spread disapproval towards the closing of Gitmo and the allowance of federal funding of overseas abortions; Senate disapproval deepens as the economic stimulus package reaches $900 billion. An income tax deduction for car buyers, part of the stimulus plan, was accepted. However, many people (especially Republicans) fear that $900 billion is too much to spend, and that it may not create as many jobs as the Dems think.
4 February, 2009: Obama set cap of $500,000 on salaries of companies who receive bailouts; Obama's pick for deputy attorney general was the lawyer representing Playboy back in the day, leading to some dissent (not sure how this impacts anything at all, personally).
5 February, 2009: Biden going to Munich for a security conference regarding Afghanistan and the Middle East; Secretary of the Treasury, the Honorable Timothy Geithner, is putting the finishing touches on his $700 billion financial rescue plan.
6 February, 2009: Obama is trying hard to get his $900 billion stimulus plan support, and is currently traveling to rally public support in light of an unwelcoming senate; the Obama family is going to Camp David for a retreat; Obama looking to extend the timeline of Iraq from 16 months to 23.
7 February, 2009: Held meeting with families of USS Cole and Sept. 11 victims regarding the closing of Gitmo; Biden told Iran that the US was willing to negotiate, but wouldn't be afraid to kick some ass if push comes to shove.
8 February, 2009: Obama has decided to be a bigger part of the supervising process of the 2010 census, which has started a political struggle with Republicans in Congress; Obama increasing membership in the National Security Council.
9 February, 2009: Obama is taking the stimulus package on the road to garner support; a correlation has been noted that the more America fails, the less illegals want to come.
10 February, 2009: The Honorable Robert M. Gates, Secretary of Defense, has called for a review of the ban on the media to take footage of dead soldiers returning home; Secretary of the Interior, the Honorable Ken Salazar, rejects Former President Bush's plan to expand offshore drilling.
11 February, 2009: Signed bill delaying digital TV switch until June, to allow viewers more time to prepare for the switch.
12 February, 2009: Raised $4.5 million to help his team transition to the White House (not sure what that means...); families of the USS Cole attack victims request a meeting to spark an investigation on the attack.
(I totally didn't forget to do the 13th. There was a rift in the time-space continuum and February the 13th doesn't exist. Seriously.)
14 February, 2009: Obama is going to sign his $787 billion stimulus bill into law on Tuesday; the Honorable Timothy Geithner pitched an economic plan to world financial leaders.
15 February, 2009: Stimulus package has been revealed to contain hundreds of millions towards cleaning up mines in public areas; the cap on bonuses for executive workers in the stimulus package is being questioned in the White House.
16 February, 2009: Has decided to use a team of specialists, rather than a single "car czar," to fix the auto industry; Obama to decide on Afghanistan troop buildup "within days, not weeks;" Justice Department is withholding lawsuits to await updated Freedom of Information Act guidelines.
17 February, 2009: Is hosting the Japanese Prime Minister, while Hillary Clinton is abroad in Asia; Obama defended a law from the Bush administration allowing guns to be kept in national parks; Obama signed the stimulus package.
